#1 Killer of Women Lung Cancer And Most Women Don't Know It

As the number one cancer killer of women, lung cancer kills almost twice as many women as any other cancer. Yet, according to the American Lung Association’s inaugural Women’s Lung Health Barometer—a survey of over 1,000 American women ages 18+ that measures women’s awareness, knowledge and perceptions about lung cancer—this disease is not even on women’s radar. In fact, when asked to identify cancers that affect women, only 1 percent of women cited lung cancer on a top-of-mind basis. The Barometer also revealed that more than half of women believe that breast cancer kills more women, despite deaths associated with lung cancer surpassing breast cancer over a quarter of a century ago.

put your worries away for a day with free activities and healthy recreations
Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s streets, presented by the New York City Department of Transportation. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC's streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.
Held between 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, Summer Streets extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue and connecting streets, with easy access from all points in New York City, allowing participants to plan a trip as long or short as they wish. All activities at Summer Streets are free of charge, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels to share the streets respectfully.
Events will be held at and near parks throughout the city. At Foley Square, you can Slide The City on a 270-foot water slide. Please visit the Slide The City page to pre-register. For a complete list of activities, please visit DOT's Summer Streets page.
